The service works by beaming a high frequency radio wave from our
source near Lake Ontario to our ‘hub’ tower. From this,
the signal is filtered out to our other towers. A radio modem
is installed where the service is required. From there the signal is
wired into
the computer or if the customer wishes into a router.
The radio modem will be attached to the side of your house facing
the signal source. Sometimes a tower is required to help increase the
signal strength. We can provide towers including installation at a
reasonable cost. For more information see our pricing section.
The radio modem then connects via ethernet cable into your computer
system or a wireless router. The wireless router gives you the freedom
to use a laptop anywhere in the house you want – within the range
the router provides.
The system works extremely well for average internet use, emails,
on-line gaming and streaming of video. Downloading or uploading
of large files however is more difficult (as it is for any other broadband
service – think of what happens to your water pressure when all
taps in the house are turned on) and will typically take longer
than you would like and at the same time, slows down the network for
other
users. Our systems are able to monitor file size and notify us
should a violation of our FAP be occurring. When this happens, the
network
automatically slows down the ‘heavy user’, helping ensure
equally fast service for all customers.
